I will be showing some clips from Asking For It and (Still) Asking For It (Directed by Ellie Heyman) for the students and faculty at John Jay College.
Barbara Cassidy and Shonna Trinnich - two brilliant professors and theater makers at John Jay College in NYC - have engaged me to talk about Asking For It for their course Seeing Rape. It has always been illuminating, challenging and educational - for me - to discuss all of this with these young students at a college known for criminal justice, just now being introduced to theater.
This presentation includes footage from a cellphone recording of it’s original experimental run in a bookshop in Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 (pre Cosby outing, #metoo, TimesUp, Weinstein, et al), to it’s updated solo version in 2016 (just before Trump is elected) and from an expanded version where the script was shared with other performers from diverse backgrounds, ages, performance genres and life experiences. The original show (AFI) was a grand experiment as was the 2019 show ((S)AFI. I’m just starting to look at footage and am learning to edit by paying little attention to the rules.
